Bridge in Santa Cruz County set to be replaced
Located on Casserly Road and Smith Road, the Bridge is a key connecting route for South County residents and businesses. However, the bridge is slowly sinking into the mud and needs to be completely replaced. It’s a project that’s been in the works for over five years.
“Trying to find the funding is always difficult. My staff worked hard to develop a plan. it’s a good plan. It’s a wider, longer bridge. We want to move it fast and not divert people and get it open before school starts,” said Santa Cruz County Director of Public Works John Presleigh.
Prep is underway now and construction is planned to start early next week on the county-owned one lane bridge. The road will be closed to all vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles through August 11th. Detour signs will be in place.
