San Juan Bautista issues drinking water warning

The City of San Juan Bautista has issued a “Drinking Water Warning.”

Drinking water tested on June 20 showed levels of nitrate of 11.64 milligrams per liter. That is above the nitrate standard.

Officials said do not give the water to infants under 6 months old or pregnant women.

Health officials said do not boil, freeze or filter the drinking water because it doesn’t reduce the nitrate level.

Bottled water is available at City Hall for customers who are susceptible to high nitrates (pregnant women, parents with infants, or people with health conditions that make them vulnerable to nitrates such as heart disease). There is also a water dispenser behind City Hall/the Fire Department that is hooked up to a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system where customers can fill up personal containers (up to 5 gallons).
