UPDATE: Man killed while running from police on Hwy 101 identified

6/16 UPDATE: CHP has released the name of the suspect struck and killed while trying to evade Salinas police Thursday evening. He’s identified as Domingo Orozco, 34, of Castroville.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as a 26-year old from San Jose , is cooperating with the investigation, according to CHP. The search is still on for the second suspect.

UPDATE: 6/15/17 9:50 PM: CHP has reopened all lanes of Northbound Highway 101.

UPDATE: 6/15/17 9:28 PM: A suspect running from police was hit and killed while trying to cross Highway 101 near Laurel Drive, Thursday night.

Salinas police were looking for two men after they had spotted them in a stolen car. They saw them in the parking lot of a 99 Cent Store. They took off, but then abandoned the car and started running. The driver went across the highway where he was hit by a pickup truck and killed. Officers chased the passenger to the 100 block of Monroe St., where he got away.

Northbound lanes of Highway 101 are closed in the area while the California Highway Patrol and Salinas Police investigate. Lanes are expected to be re-opened later Thursday night.

The North Bound lanes of Highway 101 at Laurel are shut down Thursday night after a vehicle accident, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP says a vehicle hit a pedestrian around 6:30 p.m.
