Younger people choosing Botox to prevent signs of aging, rather than reverse damage later in life
People have turned to Botox to fight the effects of aging for years. Once an older crowd, now a younger age group is using Botox.
When Botox came on the market over 20 years ago it was first used therapeutically. Through the years what it’s used for, and now even who it’s being used on has changed. In 2002 Botox became the fountain of youth for older people to reverse the signs of aging. However, more recently the drug is being used a preventative measure. According to national statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, most people who get the treatment done are ages 35-65, however the age group from 25-35 are on the rise.
“There’s been a paradigm shift now, people like the way they look. People just want to soften the aging process and maintain their skin. Maintain their facial appearance, especially with all the social media. Their face is their calling card now,” said Associate Professor and six-time Author Dr. Rebecca Small.
Botox has been approved for other purposes such as migraines, and for patients who clinch their jaw or grind their teeth.
