High-speed internet coming to downtown Santa Cruz

The City of Santa Cruz is one step closer to having high-speed internet downtown.

City leaders recently approved the encroachment permits for Santa Cruz Fiber, Cruzio Internet’s high-speed fiber project. The move will allow them to begin building the first segment of their citywide fiber optic network immediately.

“The fiber optic cables will be able to transfer data so much faster that when you’re at home you’re just not going to notice that your lagging at all,” said Peggy Dolgenos, Co- CEO and Founder of Cruzio Internet.

The broadband upgrade will provide internet speeds of 1 Gigabit per second to residents and businesses and allow for even faster speeds later.

Construction in the downtown area is expected to start in early June and continue through July.
