12-year old responsible for King City school shooting threat
A social media post from a 12-year old got King City out to a local school Monday over a threat of a shooting.
The girl posted the threat on Instagram.
The King City Police Department says she took the post down shortly after but it never should have been up in the first place.
“The school posted a school calendar on Instagram,” said Police Chief Robert Masterson. “Someone made the comment of ‘I’m going to shoot down the school so I guess the 8th graders got lucky.’ “
Chalone Peaks 8th graders had the day off.
The school district saw the comment and got police involved. They went to work finding the user behind the Instagram comment.
“They provided us with the actual wording for the threat and whose user account it came from,” Masterson said. “Through our investigative sources we tracked down the person who turned out to be a 12-year old female student of Chalone Peaks.”
Despite the seriousness of the response, King City Police Chief Robert Masterson says they won’t be charging the girl for her comments.
“She was remorseful of the threat, realized how less than intelligent it was to make it and we referred the case to juvenile probation for review and to the school district for review,” Chief Masterson said.
He adds that the department will always take threats like this seriously.
“I’d rather say we investigate these and find them to be trivial than not investigate one and find them to be serious.”
