Three-year-old boy gets hit by car outside Salinas home

According to Salinas Police, a three-year-old boy was walking with his mother from their house to their car when the boy suddenly ran into the street without looking.

He ran right in front of a Lincoln Navigator driven by 35 year-old Juvenal Serrato. Serrato told police he saw the boy run in front of his car but he couldn’t stop in time.

The victim sustained serious facial and head injuries and was flown to Oakland Children’s Hospital. The driver was unlicensed but police said he was cooperative and took a voluntary blood test for drugs or alcohol.

A home surveillance video shows the boy darting out into the street in front of the Navigator. Serrato was cited and released for being an unlicensed driver.

The three-year old boy had a broken collar bone and facial contusions but is expected to survive.
