PG&E prepping for round of storms

With wet weather on the way PG&E is getting ready for another round of storms.

“We have vegetation crews out today pruning any trees or any other type of vegetation that could come in contact with power lines ,” said Mayra Tostado , PG&E Spokesperson.

Equipment is being prepped to be shipped out to Scott’s Valley where they’ll set up a base camp.

“To make it easier to access neighborhoods that could be impacted by the storm,” said Tostado .

Earlier this year, strong winds caused thousands of trees to go down onto power lines , impacting more than 275,000 customers.

“Some residents are actually replacing trees or planting new trees at their home,” said Tostado .

PG&E is asking people tempted to plant or replace downed trees and fences damaged by the storms to first call 811 before they do any digging to make sure they don’t hit an underground gas or electric line.

“Locators have specialized equipment and they’ll use that equipment to locate where those facilities are,” said Dann Lobb , PG&E Public Awareness Specialist.

Manuel Rivera is doing some planting before it starts pouring.

“I know to call if I’m digging deep,” said Rivera.

PG&E said to call no matter how deep you’re digging. Accidently hitting a line could cost you about $5,000 and a lot of inconvenience.

“We don’t want them to damage their infrastructure, said Lobb . “We don’t want them to end up with no electricity, or no gas, or their neighbors end up with no electricity or no gas.”
