Celebrating National Burrito Day

The countdown begins to National Burrito Day and there are plenty of popular places to grab a burrito on the Central Coast.

The burrito has come a long way from its early days in Mexico where you typically get some meat wrapped in a flour or corn tortilla. Now, the options are endless and for some the bigger the better.

“The ultimate burrito with beans and rice and meat and cabbage and pico de gallo and salsa, I think it has become more of a Mexican American thing and mostly in California,” said Anthony Guajardo, owner of Mijos Taqueria in Capitola.

“I have two different sauces with the red sauce and green sauce so it’s popular because you can switch anytime. You can put cheese if you don’t like meat and we can do vegetarian too,” said Omar Rodriguez, manager of Taqueria Zarape.

A favorite among foodies in Monterey County is also El Charrito in Salinas where they make their tortillas fresh daily.
