Arrest made in 2015 Salinas homicide on Sherwood Dr.

An arrest was made in a 2015 murder case after investigators and the Salinas SWAT team entered a home in the 500 block of Santa Maria St. Thursday morning, according to police.

Investigators said Charles Gutierrez, 25, was arrested and is accused of killing Eliot Cerna Guerrero, 22, during a shooting in a parking lot on Sherwood Dr. on Aug. 8, 2015.

Police said they had very little information at the time of the shooting and that the crime scene had been partially cleaned up.

After police determined Gutierrez may become a suspect, detectives said they reviewed evidence and tracked down witnesses. They were able to get a warrant for his arrest.

Gutierrez was booked in the Monterey County Jail.
