Lockdown lifted at Salinas’ Oasis Charter Public School

The Oasis Charter Public School lockdown was lifted after Monterey County Sheriff’s Office deputies chased Angel Roman Montez in the Boronda St. area of Salinas for outstanding arrest warrants.

According to Commander John Thornburg from Monterey County Sherrif’s Office, Montez ran from deputies, hopping fences in the area of Canario and Milano and was spotted near Costco, then headed towards Oasis School at 1135 Westridge Parkway.

“He had a warrant for drug paraphernalia. We went after him, called our K9 who started barking and Montez surrendered,” Commander Thornburg said.

Although Montez attempted to go into the school, he was unable to gain entry. He fled over a fence and deputies were able to set a perimeter.

The school was placed on lock down as deputies searched the area but the lockdown was lifted soon after. Montez was located and taken into custody with the assistance of Sheriff’s K9 Bond 50 yards from the school.
