Vigil held for little league coach killed by drunk driver
Dozens of friends and family came out to say some final goodbyes to a local little league coach on Saturday.
“He was funny, fun. He made practice fun for everyone. He took pride in trying to make the kids better. Not just who’s gonna win or lose. It’s sad that he had to go so early. He was just a really good coach,” said vigil attendees.
Those were just a few of the hundred or so people that came out to remember the life of Billy Henry, the man who was killed by a drunk driver while walking on a sidewalk on work street early Thursday morning. Henry was a 38-year old little league coach for the Atlantic Little League in Salinas. Friends were happy to see their community come together in the face of tragedy.
“The end result is just to see how much we can be a family here, as a baseball family, and just let everyone know that the community is one big family and we have to rise against any tragedy,” said friend, Jesse Chacon.
Police say Jaime Garcia, the driver of the car that killed Henry, fled the scene but was later found and arrested. He was on probation for a DUI in 2014 and was driving on a suspended license. Henry leaves behind two children.
