Central Coast Escapes Department of Homeland Security wrath on undocumented immigrants
A newly released report from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is putting hundreds of law enforcement offices on alert.
The 35-page document follows on the heels of President Trump’s Executive orders and shows which agencies are not complying with ICE agents.
Notably absent from the list is every department on The Central Coast though Sanctuary cities are coming under fire by the DHS report.
Sheriff Steve Bernal from Monterey County says he thinks the clean rap is due to his office working with ICE agencies specifically for serious crimes.
Bernal also emphasized that none of his officers would assist any large round-ups or arrest anyone solely on immigration status.
Bay Area agencies weren’t quite so transparent with ICE agents. Alameda County Sherrif’s Department failed to turn over a Cambodian Immigrant convicted of domestic violence, according to the report.
The Santa Clara County Jail also made the list for not handing over a Mexican immigrant wanted on the same charge. Watch for more on the evening news.
The reports consolidate efforts from the White House to coerce cities into joining President Trump’s deportation force, designed to lock up undocumented immigrants in order for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to pick them up and deport them.
