VIDEO: Crews knock down chunk of condemned Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge in Big Sur

Crews tore down about two thirds of the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on Highway 1 in Big Sur Saturday, about a month after it was deemed unsafe following a series of winter storms.

Video above shows a huge section of it falling into the canyon below. Crews also knocked down two fractured columns. Workers had to make adjustments to a crane earlier this week to get a three-ton wrecking ball to drop with enough force.

Caltrans hopes to have the entire demolition done by the end of next week.
