Fuel reduction burn scheduled in Carmel

Cal Fire will undergo fuel reduction projects in hopes of improving the health of the forest and reduce dangerous fire fuels in the Point Lobos Ranch and Hatton Canyon areas.

The project will take place from March 20-30.

Cal Fire has teamed up with California State Parks, Cypress Fire Protection District, and Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District to put the projects into effect.

Officials said they will be removing potential flammable plants, bushes, and fallen trees which will then be burned in an enclosed “firebox,” using an air curtain incinerator releasing a minimal amount of smoke.

Weather conditions will be closely monitored and the projects will be postponed if necessary.
