Every 15 Minutes program in Marina

UPDATE 3/15/2017 2:49 p.m.: Marina police officers along with other city officials said they took a proactive step in educating local high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Alcohol-related collisions are the leading cause of death among teenagers, officials said.

Every 15 minutes, someone in the United States is injured or killed in an alcohol-related traffic collision, according to Marina police.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Every 15 Minutes program is a two-day event focused on teenagers who are exposed to the consequences of drinking and driving.

Marina High School will host the program for its students Monday and Tuesday.

Officials said the program brings together various agencies with the goal of reducing alcohol-related incidents among youths.

According to officials, the program is very dramatic and emotional. Teenagers are reminded about the choices they have to make involving alcohol and how many others are affected by their decisions.

This powerful program is designed to create an awareness among students that they are not invincible, officials said.
