24-year-old killed in Gilroy crash Sunday afternoon

A 24-year-old man was killed during a crash on Masten Ave. in Gilroy Sunday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officers said Stephen Hajdu, a 19-year-old driver from San Martin, was traveling westbound on Masten Ave., crossed over the eastbound lane to turn onto the Highway 101 on-ramp and crashing into a motorcycle rider.

A family member reached out to KION and believes Hajdu made the left turn without yielding. But CHP said the investigation is still ongoing.

Investigators don’t think alcohol or drugs were a factor during the crash, but anyone with information is asked to call CHP at 408-848-2324.
