Sewage line breaks, causes spill in North Monterey County

Residents in Moss Landing and Pajaro have been asked to limit their water use due to a broken sewage line and spill east of McGowan Bridge near Pajaro.

Monterey County officials say the spill has been contained but repairs may take several days because of expected storms.

The sewage line brings waste water from various communities to the Watsonville Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Residents along the service line have been contacted via the County’s Alert phone system and are asked to limit water use to essential needs such as cooking and toilet flushing, and reduce non-sanitation related activities such as laundry, showers and dish washing where ever possible.

As a precaution, the Monterey County Environmental Health department has posted closure signs at Zmudowski and Moss Landing beaches.
