Federal funding has been approved for areas hit hard by winter storms across California.

On Tuesday, FEMA announced that President Trump signed off on a major disaster declaration for the state making federal assistance available to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts.

The money will be used for recovery from areas affected by flooding and mudslides from January 3 to 12, 2017 in more than two dozen counties including several on the Central Coast.

That means areas in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito County will be eligible for help with the costs from cleanup efforts.

Under President Trump’s disaster declaration, the federal government will help pay for at least 75 percent of the eligible for costs for cleanup efforts which include debris removal, emergency protective measures, repairing or replacing damaged public facilities and more.

According to FEMA, federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
