Inspection to Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge will continue Wednesday afternoon
UPDATE: 2/15/2017 4:33 p.m.: Caltrans said Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge will be completely closed by 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to Caltrans Wednesday afternoon’s inspection showed even more movement and growth in fractures. All those crossing the bridge will be allowed through one last time on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Caltrans said the next bridge assessment will be made after the rain, on Feb. 21.
Cars will be allowed to cross Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge one car at a time, escorted by CHP, from either direction for Wednesdays last session.
PREVIOUS STORY: Caltrans said inspection to Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge showed movement and growth in fractures, but cars and pedestrian access has been allowed on Wednesday.
Another bridge inspection will take place Wednesday in the afternoon, according to Caltrans.
Depending on the findings of the afternoon bridge inspection Caltrans will have a 20-ton limit for cars driving by. Pedestrian access will continue, said Caltrans.
State Route 1 continues to be closed between Ragged Pt. and Pfeiffer Cyn Bridge.
Drivers may travel north on State Route 1 from Cambria to Ragged Point or south from Carmel to Pfeiffer Cyn. Bridge.
The roadway is not passable between Ragged Pt. and Dolan Pt. or to drivers at Pfeiffer Cyn. Bridge.
Caltrans said an additional slide occurred Wednesday morning south of Limekiln, drivers in that area can use Ragged Point and Nacimiento Fergusson, which will close at 5 p.m.
Caltrans warns residents about the anticipated storm on Thursday and due to safety precautions Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge will be fully closed along with the pedestrian access for the duration of the rain.
