Watsonville to buy new fire engines

Tuesday night, the Watsonville City Council voted to approve the purchase of two new custom fire engines.

The cost is expected to run a little over $1 million, which will be paid with money from Measure G, a half-cent sales tax passed in 2014.

Fire Chief Pablo Baretto told KION Wednesday that he hopes to have the new engines up and running within a year.

The city is also looking at several locations for a new substation to serve the city’s east side.
