Salinas gang member arrested

A Salinas gang member is behind bars after police say he attempted to get away during a traffic stop.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Sunday night near North Madeira and Roosevelt Street.

An officer attempted to make a stop on a vehicle, but the car pulled into an apartment complex. One passenger ran, tossing a revolver and avoiding arrest.

However, the driver identified as 19-year-old Heriberto Rodriguez was caught and arrested. Police say he had a semi-automatic handgun on him.

Two more passengers in the backseat were able to get away before more officers arrived.
