Pedestrian hit by car, dies
The driver who struck and killed a pedestrian November 16 in Salinas was driving with a suspended license but was not impaired by drugs or alcohol, according to the Salinas Police Department.
Police say Gaspar Soto, 30, was driving northbound in the right turn lane from North Main Street to Laurel Drive when Samuel Clement Alvarez, 37, ran in front of his car. Alvarez, 37, was thrown onto the car’s hood and windshield before landing on the sidewalk. Alvarez sustained a serious head injury and died Nov. 21 from his injuries.
Police say the case is still under investigation and investigators have not yet been determined what charges may be filed against the driver.
This is the 12 th fatal collision in Salinas this year and the sixth collision that involved a pedestrian death.
