UPDATE: “Metz Fire” near Soledad fully contained

UPDATE 5/25/16 10:45 PM: The “Metz Fire” that ignited near Soledad is fully contained Wednesday night.

No homes were damaged but one firefighter did suffer a minor injury.

The cause is still under investigation.

UPDATE 5/24/16 10 AM: The “Metz Fire” in Monterey County is now 70 percent contained.

Cal Fire Spokesperson Daniel Berlant tweeted, “Firefighters made good progress overnight on the 3,876 acre #MetzFirein Monterey County as it’s now 70% contained.”

UPDATE 05/23/16 5:30 PM: Firefighters were able to increase the containment line around the “Metz Fire” on Monday. Cal Fire said the fire east of Soledad is now 3,876 acres and 50 percent contained.

UPDATE 05/23/16 2:30 PM: The “Metz Fire” is holding steady at 40 percent containment.

The fire has burned more than six square miles, but growth slowed down after Sunday night, according to Cal Fire Spokesman Daniel Berlant.

About 200 firefighters are on scene.

UPDATE 05/23/16 7:25 AM: The “Metz Fire” burning near Soledad is now at least 40 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.Right now crews are mopping up, to strengthen those containment lines.

UPDATE 05/22/16 8:44 PM: The “Metz Fire” burning near Soledad has spread to nearly 4,000 acres and is 20 percent contained, according to Cal Fire. The rate of speed has slowed down.

UPDATE 5/22/2016 6:55 PM: According to Cal Fire officials, the fire has grown to roughly 900 acres and is still at zero percent containment.

Firefighters say they expect to fight the blaze through the night and into the morning.

No evacuations have been ordered, but Monterey County Sheriff Deputies are on scene helping fire crews at the command post.

Cal Fire crews are attempting to contain a 300-acre vegetation fire off Metz Road and Blue Jay Lane, east of Soledad.

Officials say the blaze began around 3:30 p.m.

The fire has not yet been contained. No homes or structures are in danger but there is a threat to power transmission lines.

The cause is currently unknown.
