Local girl’s club soccer headed to regionals
Last week we reported on a local boy’s soccer team doing huge things for the area. Today, we hear the girls saying “anything you can do I can do better!”
The El Camino Real Strikers U16 girl’s soccer team is doing big things this season as they prepare for a big trip. The club team out of Salinas went to their first state tournament this season and ended up getting second place, but still managed to earn a spot at the regional tournament in Arvada, Colorado. The Strikers were one of only two Northern California teams to earn the ticket to the regional tourney where they’ll hope to be the best of the 12 teams there. The players were surprised to discover that they had made the regional tournament despite their second place state finish.
“Yeah I was super stoked, but more than anything, I was just proud of my team,” said Presley Garcia.
“I was kind of shocked, because we were all just kind of disappointed and it was just kind of a lift just to know we made it through,” said Mackenzie Salmina.
“We were all really happy with how we played and the effort that we put into the weekend,” said Alexa Aguirre.
“Every girl contributed to get us to where we were so it’s just a great group of girls that really exemplifies what a team’s all about,” said Head Coach Bryan Aguirre.
