Alleged getaway driver arraigned in Greenfield murder case

UPDATE 4/28/16 4:48 PM: The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has brought criminal charges against a Soledad man for his role in the murder ofJose Refugio-Alvarez of Greenfield.

Fabian Martinez-Caballero, 25, was arraigned Thursday and charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Investigators say he was acting for the benefit of the Norteno Criminal Street Gang when he allegedly drove the shooter away from the crime scene.

UPDATE 4/26/16 11:52 am: The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office says its investigators have determined this was a gang related shooting and continue to process additional evidence.

UPDATE 4/25/2016 11:00 AM: A suspect has been arrested for the Friday night murder of a 35-year-old Greenfield man, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

According to the D.A.’s Office, the victim has been identified as JoseRefugio-Alvarez.

The investigation is ongoing; charges have not been filed yet.

ORIGINAL STORY: A homicide investigation is underway Friday night, according to the Greenfield Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting near Elm Avenue and S. El Camino Real.

Police said because it’s such a large crime scene Police Chief Adele Frese called in the Monterey County District Attorney to help with the investigation. Additional resources have also been called out.

This is the third homicide in the city this year.
