Alert citizens help nab a bike thief and a car thief
A Santa Cruz bike thief and car thief were arrested thanks to alert citizens.
Police arrested Jared Michael Foster, 34, a Santa Cruz transient, on January 15 after an alert citizen recognized his stolen Caletti bicycle worth $5,000.
Foster tried to run from police, dropping the bike and a backpack. Foster was on probation. He was arrested for possession of stolen property, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen identification and violation of probation.
And police arrested Jared Norris, 20, a Santa Cruz transient, on January 19 after a woman witnessed her car being stolen in the middle of the night. She heard her car alarm sound and quickly called police.
Norris tried to run, but an officer caught him. Turns out Norris stole a spare key to the car last year. Norris was arrested for car theft, reckless driving, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property.
