Retiree claims Powerball prize from Santa Cruz Chevron

A Carmichael retiree is $638,000 richer after matching five of the six numbers in Wednesday’s historic Powerball draw.He bought his ticket from the Santa Cruz Chevron Station on Soquel Avenue.

Albert Graham, 79, spent $40 in Powerball tickets after finding out how big the record-breaking jackpot was. His wife was the one who realized they had won.

“My wife Carol said I had five of the numbers and only missed the Powerball number by four digits.”

He joked he was slightly disappointed that only one number was off.

“I was disappointed in missing only the Powerball number. But then my wife said, ‘How are you disappointed?,'” Graham said.

The retired concrete worker and manufacturer plans to give the money to his kids and grandchildren. A trip to Hawaii may also be in the works.
