UPDATE: Federal Police Lt. sentenced for pointing firearm at wife, two officers
UPDATE 1/14/16 4:15 PM: A federal police lieutenant was sentenced Thursday for pointing a firearm at his wife and two on-duty Seaside police officers in July 2015. The court sentenced Erik Glazier to three years of probation and 90 days in jail.
After 1 a.m. on July 17, 2015, two Seaside police officers gave Mrs. Glazier a ride home, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. When Mrs. Glazier opened the front door, Erik Glazier was inside with a pistol pointed at his wife and the two officers.
The officers identified themselves and told Glazier to drop the gun. Glazier advanced and the officers eventually opened fire. Glazier fell to the ground, but continued to point his gun. After another command to drop the weapon, officers opened fire again. Glazier was hit four times.
Glazier had a blood alcohol of nearly .20, according to the DA’s office. The gun was real, but not loaded.
Glazier was cooperative during the investigation and took responsibility for what he called the biggest mistake of his life. He pled guilty to brandishing a firearm.
The 90 days in jail could be lifted pending completion of alcohol counseling.
UPDATE 7/17/15 4:39 PM.: Officials with Naval Support Activity Monterey confirmed the name and more information on the man allegedly involved in a shooting with Seaside Police early Friday morning.
A public information officer said Eric Glazier, 48, was the man involved. They said he’s worked as a federal civilian police officer for Naval Support Activity, which provides security support for the Naval Postgraduate School.
PREVIOUS STORY: Seaside police officers involved in a shooting with an off-duty federal police officer early Friday morning, are being placed on administrative leave as a standard operating procedure, according to police.
Investigators said officers responded to a report of a loud and intoxicated woman at a home in the 1100 block of Amador in Seaside at about 1:25 a.m. Friday. The woman was escorted to her home and as her husband opened the door, officers said the man stepped outside with a gun.
Police said they aren’t able to elaborate on details, but that shots were fired between the 48-year-old man and the Seaside officers who responded.
The officers involved in the shooting were not hurt but the man was taken to the hospital for injuries.
Seaside Police said the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office was contacted to conduct an independent investigation into the case. Seaside also plans to conduct its own internal administrative investigation.
Seaside Police said the officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
