Protecting yourself while playing office lottery pools

“It kind of gets some office excitement going,” said Gerry Bennett with Affinity Properties.

With such high chances of hitting the jackpot employees at Affinity Properties in Salinas, California are trying to i mprove their chances by playing the lotto together .

“Not always have we participated, but this seems to be extra special,” said Bennett.

They ‘ve even developed a system.

“One person is in charge, it’s not me,” said Bennett. “He brings them in, does a photocopy and hands them out to everybody.”

Clays Market, a lucky retailer in Salinas, says they’ve been seeing lots of office lottery pool customers.

Attorney Thomas Worthington says people joining together to play for the big bucks should be doing more than fantasizing about the big win.

They should alsocome up with legal action plan.

“They should have a team leader or what is often called a captain that sets all of the parameters,” said Worthington, with The Worthington Law Centre.

He also recommends keeping records and puttingthat legal agreement in writing.

“The amount of contribution each person has made needs to be recorded, and the way in which any winnings needs to be distributed has to be recorded,” said Worthington.

Affinity Properties says for now they’re passing on drafting up a contract and will just rely on the honor code.

“The office pool is absolutely equal so it wouldn’t be a question of one person over the other,” said Bennett. “Probably the only discussion would be how they would take it.”

Attorneys also say you should make photocopies of the tickets and make a list of everybody who is involved.
