Santa Cruz County man sentenced to prison in carjacking case
The Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office said Nathan Anderson was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison for a nine day crime spree that involved a carjacking, car thefts, felony evasions, drugs and an attempted carjacking in 2013.
Investigators said from Oct. 9-Oct. 16 2013, Anderson went on a criminal rampage and was later wanted by several law enforcement agencies including the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office, Watsonville Police, Capitola Police, the California Highway patrol and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
The DA’s Office said Anderson put a substantial number of residents in danger by resisting commands from law enforcement, traveling at speeds of 100 mph at times and on the wrong side of the road.
Investigators said Anderson has a significant criminal history, including an arson conviction in 2008.
This conviction serves as Anderson’s second “strike” against his record and he will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole.
