UPDATE: Reward being offered for two wanted men in Watsonville murders

UPDATE 8/25/15 5:25 p.m.: A major announcement in a deadly shooting that shocked the town of Watsonville. A shooting that left a little girl dead. Last October, a little girl was the unintended victim of a shooting at the Fish House Bar and Grill. While most of the suspects are now behind bars, two men are still on the loose.

“One of the most tragic cases we’ve ever had here,” Chief Manny Solano said.

Solano is referring to the shooting death of Jaelyn Marie Zavala where police suspect Norteno gang members were responsible. The 4-year-old was inside her family’s restaurant, when a stray bullet from outside killed her. Also killed in that shooting was the intended target Ramon Rendon, according to police.

After securing the funds, law enforcement was able to announce reward money.

“The FBI is announcing that we are offering $20,000 for the arrest and capture of Marcos Daniel Robles. We are also in addition, offering $20,000 for the capture and arrest of Brandon Martinez,” FBI public affairs specialist Michele Ernst said.

Police said their appearances may have changed their appearances. Marcos Daniel Robles faces two counts of murder in Santa Cruz County. There’s also a federal arrest warrant out for him after he was charged with fleeing. Brandon Martinez is the last suspect on the run. He has a large strawberry tattooed behind his ear. Both men are believed to be out of the country.

“We have some information that could suggest that they might be in Mexico,” Solano said.

In an attempt to close in on the two fugitives — this campaign is being pushed on social media and broadcast both in the U.S. and in Mexico.

Police believe arrests could bring the victims’ families some closure.

“Nothing can obviously ever bring back their loved ones so they are hopeful as we are that we will make further arrests for all those responsible for this crime”

NewsChannel 5 stopped by the Fish House on Tuesday where Jaelyn’s family said they weren’t ready to talk yet. We also spoke to an employee there who said regardless of the reward being offered, they just want justice.

If you know anything about where the two suspects are, call 911. They’re considered armed and dangerous.

PREVIOUS STORY: Rewards for two suspects are being offered for information leading to their arrest in the deadly shooting of a 4-year-old girl last October during a rival gang incident outside a restaurant in Watsonville.

The Watsonville Police Department and the FBI are working together to locate Marcos Daniel Robles and Brandon Martinez, both wanted as additional suspects in the case. A $20,000 reward is being offered each for both Robles and Martinez, for a total of $40,000.

“This is one of the most serious crimes we’ve ever had here. We would hope that the community would understand the importance to get a hold if us and let us know where they might be,” Chief Manny Solano said.

Michael Escobar, 31, is accused of killing Jaelyn Zavala, 4, and Ramon Rendon, 26, during the incident in October outside the Fish House Bar and Grill in Watsonville. Investigators said a stray bullet killed Zavala during a planned attack on Rendon, a rival gang member.

Last year, police arrested additional suspects Jimmy Espinoza, Juan Cruz and Roberto Ramirez, Gilberto Ponciano and Amado Hernandez.

Investigators believe both Robles and Martinez are both in Mexico.

“We have very strong evidence. Everything from video, to witnesses, to DNA evidence even that links them to this. So any belief that the community might have or any type of doubt, we would just let them know we are very certain these individuals need to be held accountable they need to be taken off the streets,” Solano said.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the FBI at 415-553-7400 or the Watsonville Police Department at 831-768-3544.
