Assembly member Luis Alejo calls for internal audit of King City Police Department

More than a year after a scandal rocked police in the South Monterey County city, Assembly member Luis Alejo said he wants answers and is calling for transparency. On Tuesday, he’s preparing to ask lawmakers for a full audit of the department.

“At this point in time an audit will help rebuild that trust and make the needed changes in the king city police department,” Alejo said.

On Monday, NewsChannel 5 spoke with the police chief about the assembly member’s plan. One question he brought up was, why is Alejo calling for this audit now?

“Where was he a year and a half ago? Where was he two years ago? We’re here making big strides in the police department with the man power we have, with the resources we have. We’re going forward,” Chief Ron Forgue said.

Alejo said by allowing this audit. The department will add much needed transparency and give local leaders a chance to prevent similar problems in the future.

“In my experience when we’ve done these audits in public entities its only resulted in great changes that help turn troubled agencies around and I think it’s going to serve that purpose for the King City Police Department, to look at what is done right,” Alejo said.

NewsChannel 5 will have more on this story on Tuesday.
