Deputies find abandoned car near Greenfield, end up with marijuana and rifle

A Soledad man was arrested for possession ammunition and assault rifle with a “high capacity magazine” early Saturday morning.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s office said deputies came upon a crashed abandoned vehicle near Elm Avenue and 14th Street just outside of Greenfield.

While searching the vehicle and the surrounding area, a vehicle pulled up. Both people inside were questioned, deputies said.

Upon search of their vehicle, deputies found the weapons and marijuana inside, deputies said.

The driver, Fabian Caballero, 18, admitted to deputies the rifle was his.

Caballero was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail.

Deputies added, the driver of the abandoned vehicle was not located.
