UPDATE: Highway 68 back open after serious crash, crews say
UPDATE 5:17p.m.: Monterey fire said Highway 68 is back open now in both directions.
UPDATE 5:09 p.m.: Monterey fire said a head-on crash happened around 4:06 p.m. on Highway 68 near Canyon Del Rey. Two people were ejected from two cars that collided traveling in opposite directions, police said. Both victims have major injuries and were taken to Natividad Medical Center.
Fire said a third person with minor injuries was taken to CHOMP. Officers said one car landed on one of the victims.
Crews are getting ready to open the road.
UPDATE: CHP reports Highway 68 at State Road 218, Canyon Del Rey Boulevard, will be closed for about an hour because of a crash.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted to Olmstead Road and westbound traffic is being diverted to SR 218.
