MoCo Sheriff’s Office IDs Friday’s fatal crash victims

UPDATE: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has identified both victims in Friday’s fatal crashes.

Deputies said the victim in the Carmel Valley crash on Laureles Grade was Denis Thush, 77, of Carmel Valley.

The victim in the Castroville crash was Janet White, 72, of Moss Landing, deputies said.

PREVIOUS STORY: CHP and emergency crews were on the scene of two separate accidents Friday night.

The first happened just before 5:00 p.m. in Carmel Valley, killing a 77-year-old man.

It happened near Laureles Grade and Los Robles Road.

According to CHP, there was a head on collision between a van and a pick-up truck. Officers said the van crossed over the double yellow lines.

A man in the van died, and three people in the pick-up truck were taken to Natividad Hospital. Their names are Manuel Lopez, Seaside, Cristobal Hernandez, Monterey, and Ernesto Lopez, Seaside.

The area re-opened just after 7:30 p.m.

The second accident happened on Castroville Blvd. east of Elkhorn Rd.

According to CHP, a 72-year-old woman in a red Volkswagon bug was killed. Officers said a 35-year-old woman in a blue pick-up truck was hurt and taken to Natividad Hospital.

CHP said the red bug went off the road, over-corrected and smashed into the other car head on.

Castroville Rd. reopened just before 8 p.m.
