Alleged Carmel jewelry store burglar caught in action, police say
An alleged jewelry store burglar is facing charges after officers responded to an alarm early Tuesday morning at Viau Estate Jewelry on Mission Street in Carmel early Tuesday morning, police said.
Officers said Jiri Grym, 64 of San Diego, was found near a bathroom in a back alley behind the business. They said Grym had a bag full of jewelry estimated to be worth $250,000 and that he admitted to the burglary.
Police said Grym allegedly thought out the burglary ahead of time by casing the business on Monday, later hiding in the bathroom and cutting a hole into the business.
Officers discovered the burglary after the alarm company contacted police.
Grym was taken to the Monterey County Jail.
