Gas explosion in Fresno near Highway 99, crews say
Fire crews in Frenso confirm a gas explosion has shut down Highway 99, causing more than a dozen injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing flames shooting 200 feet into the air and at least 14 people have been injured, according to Fresno Fire Department. Crews said three people are reported to be in critical condition.
California Highway Patrol reports traffic on Highway 99 in Fresno came to a halt when the explosion erupted around 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said the explosion happened at the county gun range, where county inmates using heavy equipment hit a natural gas pipeline.
