Healthcare workers rally against sale of Gilroy hospital
At Gilroy City Hall at 8:00am Thursday, healthcare workers along with elected officials and community members rallied against the sale of Saint Louise Regional Hospital.
According to United Healthcare Workers West, the healthcare workers feel the sale of the hospital to a company called Prime Healthcare will jeopardize jobs and low-income residents’ accessibility to healthcare.
Protesters are pushing for Blue Wolf Capital’s bid to buy the hospital, according to Unites Healthcare Workers West.
There is also a group of people rallying in support of the sale of the hospital to Prime Healthcare.
The rally is being followed by a 10:00am hearing at Gilroy City Hall. The hearing is being presided over by California Attorney General Kamala Harris. This is the fourth of six hearings being held in California this week. Harris will approve or reject the sales of six hospitals, which are owned by the Daughters of Charity Health System, according to officials.
