Petition to remove Carmel parking meters

Some Carmel business owners and residents are trying to get rid of new parking meters along Ocean Avenue.

The meters have been there for a month.

They are meant to stop cars from holding up parking spaces.

However, some people say they are too time consuming and do not belong.

One shop owner also says the new meters are affecting business. Sharree Smith of Carriggs of Carmel said, “People said it was just difficult to… they didn’t want to pay, they went along the sides and if they couldn’t find a space, they walked on.”

Smith has started a petition to remove the meters. It already has 700 signatures.

The beginning of the summer marks the end of the six month trial period for the meters.

Then the city will have to decide whether or not to keep them.
