Man hit in Salinas hit-and-run crash has died
UPDATE 1-6-2015:
On January 5th, Miguel Lomeli died from injuries suffered during the collision, according to Salinas Police. Investigators say it is now requesting additional charges against Edward Ramirez, which include vehicular manslaughter.
According to police, this incident was the sixth collision in Salinas in 2014 involving a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle and the tenth fatal traffic collision for the year. Police say in 2013 there were twelve fatal traffic collisions in Salinas.
12-30-2014:
A man wanted for a hit and run crash last week in Salinas is now in custody.
Salinas police officers arrested Edward Ramirez on Fairview Avenue at 5 p.m. Thursday. Ramirez was inside a motel room there.
According to police, Ramirez hit 54-year-old Miguel Angel Lomeli with a stolen SUV on Soledad Street on December 26th. Lomeli was pinned between the SUV and a metal fence post. Ramirez left the SUV and took off on foot.
Lomeli is still in critical condition in the hospital.
