UC Santa Cruz student held at knifepoint

The UC Santa Cruz Police Department needs the public’s help to identify an attempted kidnapping suspect.

Thursday night about 7:00pm a student reported getting attacked as she got into her car in the North Remote Parking Lot.

According to campus police, the woman said she got into the driver’s side of her car when the unknown suspect popped up from the backseat and held a knife to her demanding she start the engine.

Police say the victim was able to open the driver’s side door and ran for help. Two men in a nearby vehicle helped her call 911.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and between 150 and 160 pounds. He has blond or light brown hair with a “scruffy” or several-days-old beard. He was wearing a light gray hoodie sweatshirt.

Police are concerned the suspect could strike again.
