Carmel Valley centenarian is state’s oldest California Highway Patrol volunteer

At 100, Homer Bosserman Jr. of the Carmel Valley is the state’s oldest California Highway Patrol volunteer.

Bosserman, who served in World War II as a U.S. Marine, has volunteered for the CHP’s Monterey County office for the past 14 years.

He’s one of more than 800 senior volunteers with the state agency, but he’s the only one who can boast that he’s been around for a century. He celebrated his birthday in June.

Bosserman drives his own hybrid vehicle to the CHP office, where he assists with a variety of tasks, including filing and other clerical duties.

“I’ve had a pleasant hundred years,” Bosserman says. “Some parties have been wild, and the ladies have been chasing me, hahaha.”

Bosserman spent years working in Cadillac sales before his retirement.

State officials will honor Bosserman Monday in Sacramento.

CHP officer Jaime Rios says Bosserman is being honored not just because of his age but because of his spirit and dedication.
