Man arrested in connection with burned body found near Morgan Hill

A 21-year-old man was arrested on murder charges in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found burning near Morgan Hill last month.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies said Edgardo Gutierrez of San Jose was arrested earlier this month.

Gutierrez was arraigned last week on charges of murder and arson, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup. He pleaded not guilty.

The body of 35-year-old Julie Teresa Calocci of San Jose was found on the side of the roadway near Oak Glen Avenue on Aug. 28. Her body had been burned, and she was deceased when crews arrived.

Stenderup said the two had no prior relationship and had met only recently before her body was found.

Deputies are not releasing information about a possible motive at this time.
