3 but first! a city here on the central coast… is losing a big employer! i’m marc cota-robles! i’m jasmine viel. ### dole fresh vegetables is restructuring nationwide — and that means job cuts for some local people… 3 this— is according to employees of dole fresh vegetables! ### our ricardo navarro in the newsroom… and ricardo, you are hearing a dole facility here in monterey county—will close its doors soon? 3 3 that’s right. the distribution facility here in gonzalez will reportedly close next month. some workers will be relocated…others have been told they will be let go. but lay offs at other locations — like in monterey — have already happened. city leaders here say they were blindsided by this. 3 *trt 1:34outcue:more competitve in the industry. :* 24-31 1:18-1:23 in this email obtained by central coast news…dole fresh vegtables president ray de riggi announced a restructure plan on thursday which includes several management layoffs. an employee told us — dole fresh vegetables ceo, coo, and cfo have all chosen to leave. this follow-up email also sent to employees thursday — addresses the closing of the gonzalez distribution facility. 27:30 imagine, i’ve been here for 30 years working here. this is part of my life here, from when i was 22 years old. andres hernandez says employees here aren’t sure whether they’ll still have jobs.. 26:33 we don’t know if they are going to let us go or if go to another location, they said yes. they will move us to marina. late this afternoon i spoke with dole communications director bill goldfield he said the gonzalez shut down will be relocating 45 positions from this facility to marina. but this email references quote “consolidations of many other positions leading to job eliminations.” 31:42 its very disapointing to get the news deputy city manager thomas truszkowski told me whatever the numbers — shutting down this plant means fewer jobs for gonzalez. 3 he said the city wasn’t aware of any this – until i told him about it. 31:59 the city would have taken some action to try at least keep the jobs here in gonzalez…, its not too late for that, but we certainly would have liked to met with dole and find out why they were leaving town. as for the layoffs — dole says this “it is regrettable that there is job eliminations, its not what we want to do but this is a move that will make us more competitve in the industry. 3 we’ve been told many of these layoffs that already happened were in the monterey office. i have not heard back from any dole reps yet. coming up at six more from what the city says about the economic impact. in gonzalez, rn, yccn
