Salinas man gets 13 years in prison for stealing $16
A Salinas man who stole $16 and a cellphone from a truck driver has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Alejandro Gonzales, 27, pleaded guilty last week to armed robbery.
On April 12, 2013, Gonzalez walked up to a pickup parked at Home Depot armed with a handgun and demanded money from the driver. The truck was loaded with vegetables for transport and sale.
The driver gave Gonzales all the money he had — $16 — and his cellphone.
The driver’s friend approached to see if he could help and Gonzales pointed the gun at him too, prosecutors said.
Police were called and Gonzales was arrested in minutes. He had $16 in his possession when apprehended, police said.
Gonzales will be given an agreed-upon sentence of 13 years in prison next month.
