Nomination period for write-in candidates in Monterey County starts April 7

The Monterey County Elections Department announced that the nomination period for qualifying as a write–in candidate opens today — Monday, April 7 — for offices scheduled for the June 3 statewide primary election.

The nomination period closes on Tuesday, May 20 at 5 p.m. Interested individuals must file a declaration of write-in candidacy and meet all nomination requirements particular to the office. There are no filing fees or candidate statements, and the write-in candidate’s name will not appear on the ballot.

The following offices are available for persons interested in becoming a qualified write-in candidate:

Federal offices

U.S. Representative, District 20

State offices

Governor
Lieutenant Governor
Secretary of State
State Controller
State Treasurer
State Attorney General
State Insurance Commissioner
State Board of Equalization District 2
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
State Senator, District 12
State Assembly, District 29
State Assembly, District 30

County offices:

County Supervisor, 2nd District
County Supervisor, 3rd District
Assessor/County Clerk/Recorder
Auditor/Controller
District Attorney
Treasurer/Tax Collector
Sheriff/Coroner
County Superintendent of Schools (Monterey & Santa Cruz County)
