Salinas police make arrest in Tuesday’s fatal shooting

A 35-year-old man was arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with Tuesday’s fatal shooting.

Salinas police investigators, aided by members of the department’s violence suppression unit and SWAT team, arrested Antonio Martinez on Kennedy Street.

Martinez, 35, is suspected in the death of Juan Carlos Pedraza, police said.

Pedraza, 47, was shot multiple times Tuesday evening near his Towt Street home.

It was the third homicide in Salinas in 2014, and the second to occur this month. Isaias Edeza, 36, was fatally shot outside a bar in the early morning hours of March 8. Jose Gonzalez Solano, 37, was shot to death near his home on North Main Street on the morning of Jan. 11.
