Marina Police: Man missing after being pulled into the water at Marina State Beach

MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Marina Police and Fire suspended search operations for a man who was reportedly pulled into the water at Marina State Beach.

Police said they initially received the call around noon about a man who was overcome by high surf and pulled into the water.

According to police, some bystanders did their best to try to help the individual, but the large waves and strong currents prevented them from successfully doing so.

Police said there was no visual confirmation of the person in the water, despite an expansive search from the air and sea.

The search was called off around 2 p.m. because conditions worsened.

Police are not releasing the name of the missing person at this time.
