Gov. Newsom signs bill to expand broadband infrastructure into law

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 7/20/2021 1 p.m. Gov. Gavin Newsom visited an elementary school in Tulare County Tuesday, and while he was there, he signed a $6 billion bill to expand broadband infrastructure for underserved communities into law.

The bill was passed in the state Assembly and Senate last week.

Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo spoke during the visit.

PREVIOUS STORY: Gov. Gavin Newsom is visiting an elementary school in Tulare County Tuesday, and while he is there, he is expected to discuss the state's plan to provide statewide access to high-speed broadband internet.

Last week, a $6 billion broadband package passed in the state Assembly and Senate.
